The annual observance marks the anniversary of Pope Francis' encyclical on care for our common home, calling on people everywhere to translate hope into action.
Pope Leo XIV urged members of the Laudato Si' Movement, along with everyone committed to integral ecology, to recommit themselves to the cause.
Drawing on St. Francis of Assisi's devotion to all living creatures and his witness to peace, the Holy Father spoke as the Church commemorates 800 years since the saint's death.
"In this Jubilee Year of Saint Francis of Assisi, let us remember his message of peace with God, with our brothers and sisters, and with all creatures," he said.
The Pope expressed sorrow that conflicts around the world have significantly stalled progress in caring for creation over recent years.
He closed by drawing a direct connection between safeguarding peace and safeguarding life.
"I encourage the members of the Laudato Si' Movement and all those who work for an integral ecology to renew their commitment," he said. "Care for peace is care for life."
